The History of Pinwheels and Giobas
Travel, Games, and Artisan Traditions
In the late 19th century, the “balonari” of Gattorna traveled to the great cities of Northern Europe with suitcases full of simple yet fascinating toys. Made from materials such as cardboard, tin, and fabric, these toys included trumpets, cardboard mice, fabric balls filled with sawdust and elastic bands functioning as yo-yos, small fabric animals, and the iconic pinwheels, which at the time were made of paper. These humble toys brought joy to millions of children, sold at fairs in Hamburg, Paris, Stockholm, London, Munich, and Amsterdam. Today, the “Small Toy Museum” in Gattorna celebrates this rich historical heritage, while the pinwheel remains a lasting symbol of that era of adventure and dedication.
A Journey Through Years of Success
Giobas: Innovations in the World of High-Quality Pinwheels
Since its humble beginnings in 1953, Giobas has charted a path of continuous growth and innovation in the pinwheels toys industry. Founded by Mario Basso as a small artisan business, the company has evolved over the years under the leadership of his successors, embracing advanced technologies and expanding its global presence. Today, Giobas not only continues to produce iconic toys but also stands out as a leader in the market for windmills garden decorations for patios and outdoor spaces worldwide.

On March 1, 1953, Mario Basso took over a small artisan company, renaming it "Alfredo Ginocchio di Basso Mario", and began producing small toys for European wholesalers. He implemented more efficient production systems and expanded the workforce.

The business grew, and in 1967 we purchased the first press to build the various plastic components of the pinwheel, which became the product we specialized in, eventually becoming known worldwide.

Graziano and Carlo, the sons of Mario Basso, expanded the family business with new spaces and investments in modern machinery, including automated pinwheel production systems with electronic and robotic technologies. This is how "Giobas" was born.

In 1996, the "garden" line was launched with polypropylene pinwheels, ideal for outdoor use. We acquired a new facility and a plastic cutting machine to meet the growing demand for the garden line.

In 2005, we showcased our products at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa and purchased the first automatic machine to speed up production, later expanding with additional units to cover the production of other models.

Our pinwheels, once considered simple toys, have increasingly become decorative items for gardens and patios. Today, we are regular exporters, sending goods to over thirty countries worldwide.
